Nexus Application for Children
IVT only process NEXUS applications for children if they are accompanied by a paid-for adult application. When accompanied by a paid for adult application, child applications are the processed free of charge regardless of the number of children.
Parents or guardians need to make a separate NEXUS application for children under the age of 18. If your child does not have his or her own NEXUS pass you can’t use the NEXUS kiosk. NEXUS child applicants must apply for their own NEXUS card by submitting a separate NEXUS application. NEXUS child applicants must be under 18 years old and must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
There is a downloadable easy to follow application form for child NEXUS applicants. If your child meets the NEXUS Program Requirements, follow these easy steps to apply for your child’s NEXUS card:
STEP 1: Download and fill out the regular NEXUS application form on your child’s behalf
STEP 2: Send it to us by e-mail or fax. We run checks on your child’s application and then submit their data to Canadian and US border authorities.
STEP 3: We contact with information on scheduling your child’s NEXUS interview at a NEXUS interview center once your child is conditionally approved for the program.
IVT Downloadable Form Services
Our skill is in accurately entering the information and interpreting the government jargon associated with the Canada – US government trusted traveler program application forms. IVT services save you time and money especially if you are applying for program membership for your whole family or a group of business associates because you do not need to fill out an extended application form and IVT make daily checks on the status of your account with the government.
There are no fees for child candidates under 18 years.
Once the US Customs and Border Agency have run security and background checks on you to determine your low risk status as a trusted traveler, IVT will contact you with details of how to schedule a mandatory in-person interview. Alternatively, and as part of our service to you, we will schedule this appointment on your behalf if you request us to do so by emailing us your preferred dates and times. Interview dates are subject to government wait times and vary between enrollment centers.
If your child travels in your car and does not have his or her own NEXUS pass, you will not be able to use the NEXUS kiosk at the Canada US border.
NEXUS Child Approvals
Your child NEXUS application must contain supporting documentation otherwise your child may be denied a NEXUS pass. Canada NEXUS applications for children are scrutinized in the same way as an adult NEXUS application; however fewer child applications for NEXUS are denied entry to the program as few children have criminal and immigration violations compared to adult NEXUS applicants. In most cases when a child is denied a NEXUS card, the reason comes down to incomplete or inaccurate information provided on the application form.
NEXUS Card Instructions for Single Parents
All infants and children require the consent of a parent or legal guardian to apply for a NEXUS pass. You can apply for a child NEXUS pass even if you or their other parent or guardian is not a NEXUS pass holders. Parents who share custody of their children should carry copies of the legal custody documents. It is also recommended that they have a letter of authorization from the other custodial parent to take the child on a trip out of the country. Such a letter will confirm that the child is not being abducted or taken against his or her will. The parents’ full name, address and telephone number should be included in the letter of authorization. When travelling with a group of vehicles, parents or guardians should arrive at the border in the same vehicle as the children. Adults who are not parents or guardians should have written permission from the parents or guardians to supervise the children. The permission letter should include addresses and telephone numbers where the parents or guardian can be reached. When you arrive at the US Canada border with children in your car you may be subject to detailed questions about the children travelling with you because customs and border protection officers are constantly on watch for missing and abducted children.
NEXUS Interview for Children
All infants applying for a NEXUS card must attend a NEXUS interview at a NEXUS Enrolment Center of your choice. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian who has legal custody of the child; families will be interviewed in one meeting. The parent or guardian must present documentary evidence proving their custodial rights and proof that there are no restrictions on the child’s removal from the custodial jurisdiction. The NEXUS officer will scrutinize the documents to ascertain that the parents or guardians applying for the NEXUS pass for children is actually the parents or legal guardians of the Canada NEXUS child applicant. Your child will have to give biometric data, but an iris scan is not compulsory even if you intend for your child to use the pass for air travel.
IVT does not guarantee approval for any Trusted Traveler program. Inaccurate or incomplete NEXUS pass application forms are automatically denied access to the NEXUS cards program.
